DERICK NAUDE

Aircraft Maintenance Analyst

A Great Introduction

Raised in Pretoria, South Africa, Derick Naude joined the South African Air Force (SAAF) in 1988 upon graduation from high school.

“I was involved with aircraft maintenance in the SAAF from day one. My squadron operated Boeing 707 mid-air refueling tankers. Later, I managed relationships with civilian product suppliers. It was a great introduction to aviation, especially for someone so young,” explains Derick.

MROs and OEMs

Upon retiring from the SAAF in 1999, Derick joined ExecuJet in Johannesburg as an Engine Shop Maintenance Planner. This would mark the beginning of his expertise in business aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO).

Derick went on to work for several companies including Pratt &Whitney Canada in South Africa, and Hawker Beechcraft and Embraer Executive Jets in the UK. All the while, he was further developing his skillset, including specializations in MRO, jet engines, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and customer relationship management.

“Before I joined the TRAXXALL team, I was a TRAXXALL client. And, having used almost every maintenance tracking system on the market, I can say with confidence that TRAXXALL offers the best service in the business. I know that from my own hands-on experience.”

Despite the challenges of a busy career and raising three boys, Derick made time to earn a Diploma in Business Management in 2004.

In 2015, Derick returned to ExecuJet in Johannesburg and later ExecuJet Nigeria.

“As Acting Base Maintenance Manager, I was largely responsible for up to 25 business aircraft on any given day. It was a rewarding role that really enabled me to draw on everything I’d learned about the business up to that point.”

In 2018, Derick moved to Lanseria Jet Center in Johannesburg as Logistics and Base Maintenance Manager, responsible for up to 45 business aircraft. And, for the first time, he became a TRAXXALL client.

“I’m in a fairly unique position. Before I joined the TRAXXALL team, I was a TRAXXALL client. And, having used almost every maintenance tracking system on the market, I can say with confidence that TRAXXALL offers the best service in the business. I know that from my own hands-on experience.”

In 2019, Derick and his family returned to the UK. In 2020, Derick joined TRAXXALL.

The TRAXXALL Advantage

“Our analysts are aviation maintenance experts. Many of us have 25+ years of industry experience. Our people are knowledgeable and committed. We take ownership of the relationships we enjoy with our clients.”

“For example, a client of mine was changing an engine on a Dassault Falcon 10. I noticed that the replacement engine was incompatible with the airframe. I reported this to the client but the work was already underway. Concerned, I reached out to former colleagues in the engine OEM business. After considerable research, we discovered that the engine had undergone a conversion that changed its model designation and made it compatible. The confusion was traced back to logbook and certification errors. Today, the aircraft is operating smoothly.”

“I think this shows how we at TRAXXALL draw from our experience to protect our clients’ safety and best interests. In this case, things could have gone very badly. Without many years in the business, most people would have missed an important detail like this one. But knowledge and experience matter and I believe that’s how we distinguish ourselves,” concludes Derick.
